UNPLUGGED - HAPPY WITHOUT CABLES - Mobile light to take along. Without annoying tangled cables and mains plugs. With its new UNPLUGGED series, the design manufacturer Less'n'more (www.less-n-more.com) is launching four battery-operated floor lamps Ylux and Athene that make exactly this possible: Light everywhere, even where there is no power connection.

It's no secret that our heart has been beating in and for Cologne for a long time. In order to pursue this feeling and to accommodate our growing need for space, we have decided to separate our creative head from manufacturing. Therefore, we are very happy to be able to work out our ideas in the future right in the pulsating centre of our beautiful cathedral city.

How funny, unusual and unique: thanks to a rechargeable battery and an oak wood body, the Bookowski lamp by designer Kai Steffens not only brings any book or magazine to any place, no matter how unusual, but also a good bottle thanks to a shelf with a glass holder made of stainless steel (approx. 995 euros). The name is more than well chosen: The late author Henry Charles Bukowski liked to drink a good drop - even if he often drank too much.

Whether "Luzie" is a magic lamp, like the one in the story of Aladdin, has yet to be proven. What is certain is that its glowing crown of flames conjures up a nostalgically beautiful atmosphere in the balmy summer evening.Oil lamps are associated with the ancient Orient and European antiquity. The fact is that they are the oldest artificial source of light known to mankind.

LITERARY TRIO - Ringelnatz, Bukowski and Rolland. You know them, you think. Now there is reading furniture that bears the names of famous literary figures.

Flexible material and sophisticated design make it possible: our acrobatic 3-piece ceiling light is a small design miracle. Like all our luminaires, it can be focused. But that's not all. The three movable shafts give the luminaire a high degree of flexibility to set targeted lighting accents.

Unconventional - In the new product line of the design manufactory less'n'more, luminaires are combined with furniture and the theme of reading. The bookworm convinces right away with its originality and uniqueness. Because the shapely book cover made of grey mottled wool felt with integrated LED light is more than just a mobile reading light.

Strolling through the forests of Madagascar, one might be lucky enough to admire a wonderfully luminous chameleon. But as soon as it feels discovered, it becomes almost invisible, as if at the push of a button. In biology, this effect of camouflage is called mimesis.

Small, cheeky and smart - our wall and ceiling lamp of the Fyps luminaire family is playful and wonderfully adaptable at the same time. Due to its delicate construction made of high-quality aluminium, Fyps fits discreetly into any home design and also likes to attract all eyes.

For almost 130 years, the light bulb was in the limelight - for a few years now, LEDs have been the new stars of lighting. With a lot of love and enthusiasm, we at less'n'more are constantly working to advance technological development. With our luminaire series - Fypsand Mimix- we have taken a big step forward. Both families are equipped with replaceable 230-volt LEDs that do not require an extra intermediate power supply unit.

At Less'n'More from Pulheim near Cologne, the name says it all; the lighting manufacturer concentrates on the essentials in every respect. Their products convince with a reduced design and intelligent, technical solutions.

THE LIGHT COUNTS: With the luminaire Mimix , Less'n'more has launched a new LED luminaire series that remains so much in the background that it is hardly noticed. At the same time, it makes full use of the advantages of current LED technology.

We have been developing and producing LED luminaires for professional use since 2001. Prolyx now represents the next stage of evolution. The LEDs of the Prolyx series can be connected directly to 230 volts without the need for an interference-prone power supply unit.

With meticulous care and commitment, the less'n'more lamp company, founded in 2002, creates LED lighting objects and systems. The managing directors Kai Steffens and Christian Dinow have already been rewarded with a red dot award (2010) and a nomination for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, among others.

Furniture design with a difference. Andreas Gröbel buys old gymnastics equipment from sports halls and builds completely new furniture from it. One of his commissions: A 160m² café with room for over 100 people. Benches made from pommel horses and tables from old bars. And our handmade lamps to match.

Align and focus in the blink of an eye: less'n'more has added a recessed ceiling spotlight to its "Ylux" family. With its 3D kinematics, the spotlight can be easily and precisely aligned. Thanks to an integrated focus system, the user can also vary the beam angle continuously between 40° and 100° without tools.

Manufacture and high-tech go hand in hand: From now on, some of our high-quality LED luminaires can also be controlled and dimmed via smartphone or tablet. All you need is the free Casambi app (iOS* / Android) and a Bluetooth control unit. The new control unit enables infinitely variable dimming of our LED luminaires via smartphone, tablet or simply directly from the light switch.

(2014) Neue Stadtschulen, St. Gallen. The New Apostolic Church on Rosenberg, built by the architect Heinrich Graf in 1957/1958, was acquired by Bettina and Markus Würth in order to build a place of learning that meets the most modern educational requirements. The space was reorganised and expanded to meet the needs of the New City School.

Less is LED: For a long time, they were looked down upon and were considered cold and uncomfortable. LED lamps have not had it easy. But the lighting industry is changing. This summer, the design manufacturer Less'n'more is launching the Luzie oil lamp, a novelty with a new safety system in a sophisticated design. The small clip-on bottle with the patented burning insert ensures an aha-effect from the first time it is opened and lasting lighting pleasure right up to the last minute.

Ylux is available as a recessed spotlight in a total of 3 colour versions and can also be equipped with 3 selectable light colours.

Creativity made in Cologne- With their passion for LED technology, the two industrial and communication designers Kai Steffens and Christian Dinow went into business for themselves in 2002 and founded the lighting manufactory less'n'more. Since then, they have been developing and producing highly functional and design-oriented LED lighting objects for the home and contract sector. The name of their company is also the programme for the products.

The design company less'n'more produced luminaires for machine lighting until it discovered the sales potential of its products with private customers. But their bank refused to provide start-up financing. The financial requirements were simply too low for the internationally active group. The fact that the Pulheim-based company is now well positioned in the market is thanks to the foresight of a regional financial partner.

Possible uses of wooden luminaires. Wooden luminaires offer interior designers an undreamt-of wealth of possibilities. For example, large-format pendant luminaires made of precious veneer can be a real eye-catcher in a modern concrete loft.

Light & Building 2014 is now history again and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for many interesting discussions, praise, a lively exchange and, of course, not least for your visit. Compared to 2012, we had almost 20% more visitors at our stand.

At this year's furniture fair in Cologne, we were allowed to put the wonderful wooden works of art by Spaltart in the right light. Our Ylux lights gave the already wonderful surfaces the appropriate drama of light and shadow.

"Explore Technology for Life - the best energy is that which is not consumed" is the guiding theme of Light + Building 2014, a theme that is tailor-made for the sustainable LED luminaire systems from less'n'more.

We are very pleased that, after 2010, one of our creations, Ylux , was once again able to hold its own "in the concert of the greats". The Luminaire of the Year competition is held annually on the internet. Twelve luminaires competed against each other in a voting phase.

WITH A LOT OF LOVE FOR THE DETAIL: Even with the first designs, Less'n'more focused on simple, intuitive adjustability of the light cone. With the new luminaires of the Ylux system, this line is consistently continued and expanded via an additional ball joint.

THE COUNTRY NEEDS NEW LIGHTS: Beautiful glow with LED. The future belongs to the light-emitting diode. It has made it from a small control lamp to an almost all-rounder. Its technology not only provides us with new light sources, it also inspires completely new luminaires - permanently installed because they are almost endlessly durable.
